Anyone wishing to be employed as a CCTV operator for public space surveillance has to be in possession of a license issued to them by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). This nationally recognised qualification, which is endorsed by the SIA, is the industry standard and enables a CCTV operator to meet one of the requirements to apply for their license to practice.

This covers the knowledge required as a minimum standard for entry to the industry, as agreed by the members of the national steering and executive committees. It provides candidates with a clear reference as to their duties and responsibilities.

This qualification, which is regulated by Ofqual and is worth 4 credits, follows the SIA’s new specification. The unitised structure reduces overlap between subject areas making it easier for learners to gain qualifications for additional sectors (Door Supervision, Security Guarding etc.) as they will only need to sit the additional units.

Candidiates who have completed the Working in the Private Security module as part of a Door Supervisor or Security Guard training course from 1st January 2015 do not need to complete this module again.  Proof of prior trainnig will be required for exemption.

Candidates who have completed the Working in the Private Security Industry module before 1st January 2015 may be exampt for further training but will need to resit the examination to gain the full Working as a CCTV Operator within the Private Security Industry qualification - so will need to book the FULL COURSE option
